The Spice Route

A visit to India’s second highest waterfall is a must for most visitors to Goa. Enjoy a fabulous day out driving in a four wheel drive, through dirt tracks and numerous streams, splashing around in the fresh sparkling water of the stunning Dudhsagar Waterfalls, feeding the local monkeys and later on your way back visit the elephant.

Going through the heart of Goa, passing through small villages, past bright paddy fields and swaying palms, we head to the local wildlife sanctuary. We then drive on right up into the Western Ghats to a height of around 2000 feet where the spectacular sight of the waterfall awaits you. This 603-metre fall of fresh clean water into a pool is just perfect for swimming and is most people’s idea of a fantasy fulfilled.

On the journey to the base of the falls you drive through sun dappled forest bouncing along red soil dirt tracks and through shimmering streams spraying up glittering showers of water. Pass scampering monkeys jumping from tree to tree and local families doing their daily washing in the stream. You make your way over boulders and bridges fashioned from slender logs merely laid side by side and suddenly you are at the falls. Its time for a swim in the cool clean pool waters and under the cascading streams. Lie down on a smooth rock or just sit under the shade of the trees and tuck into your packed lunch but be prepared to share this with the cheeky monkeys who will relieve your hands of unwanted bananas.

Head off to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary where you will enjoy walking through the botanical gardens, where you might spot an elephant.
