We take a boat ride from Sinquerim, spotting dolphins frolicking about in the Arabian waters before we arrive at the flea market in Anjuna. What started off as a small market for hippies selling off their personal stuff before leaving the country, has now transformed itself into a great open air market, amidst coconut groves.
This is a great place for souvenir shopping where you will find traders from all parts of India selling their wares. You will find Kashmiris selling silver jewellery and papier - mache boxes, Tibetans selling prayer wheels, turquoise bracelets and sundry Himalayan curios. Women from the lamani tribes(local gypsies) decked from head to toe in traditional tribal grab, selling elaborately woven multicoloured cloth, which they fashion in to every thing from jackets to money belts, dazzling Rajasthani mirror work and block printed bedspreads including Kerala wood carving can be found. Mingling with the suntanned masses are bands of strolling musicians, itinerant beggars, performing monkey acts and snake charmers as well as the inevitable hippie jugglers adding colour to this already vibrant market.
After bargaining and buying we proceed on the same boat across the Chapora River to Morjim Beach with its own charisma located in the fishermen’s village, where you will be welcomed with a drink of fresh coconut water followed by a typical Goan lunch.
